Our Mission

Digital Volunteers, Inc. is a 501 ( c ) 3 registered nonprofit organization dedicated to helping bridge the digital divide globally and promoting universal access to telecommunications technology and the internet.

The organization was initally founded by Dariush and Leila Afshar, in 2001, based upon their interest in making a difference in society with respect to telecommunications. Dariush has been exposed to the telecommunications field for years and shares a passion for using its positive potential to effect change in both the industrialized and developing world in order to improve the quality of life of people.

Digital Volunteers obtained its nonprofit status in order to help facilitate universal access and the spread of technology for the improvement of people's lives. Drawing upon the leadership and knowledge base of people throughout the world who have been active in the telecommunications arena, Digital Volunteers is far-reaching in its approach.

The organization counts visionary entrepreneurs, corporate philanthropists, technology enthusiasts, government policy makers, international telecommunications regulators, think tank scholars, university professors, and other dedicated volunteers among its strongest supporters. Digital Volunteers has no political, religious or national affiliations and seeks to address the issue of universal telecommunications access precisely in this way, immune to international politics.
